​Preparing for College
 

 

If you are seeking regular admission to a PASSHE university, you will need to have completed the following high school curriculum*: 

Four years of Language Arts:  English I, II, III and IV.

Three years of Mathematics: The equivalent of Algebra I, Geometry and a third-year course in either Algebra II or a rigorous course based in Probability/Statistics.

Three years of  Science: The equivalent of Biology (with lab), Chemistry (with lab) and any other inquiry-based lab or technical science course such as Physics, Engineering, Environmental or Earth Science.

Three years of Social Studies: Civics, U.S. History, World History, Geography and Economics.

High School Junior

Make a list of your abilities, courses you want to take or areas of study in which you are interested.

Focus on your preferences for campus size, number of students and location.

Are you interested in sports, clubs, theatre?

Do you have a career in mind? Are there particular courses which are important to entering that career?

Start thinking about the cost of college and possible financial aid.

Update your resume, highlighting accomplishments and work experiences​

Attend college fairs and financial aid nights if they are offered. ​

Talk to you counselor about your college plans.​

Register for the SAT or ACT offered in the fall.​

Finalize the list of colleges and universities to which you will apply.​

Begin to fill out admissions applications and work on your application essays.​

Research scholarship opportunities and request application materials.

High School Senior

Narrow your list of colleges. Get an application and financial aid form from each.​

Visit as many campuses as possible.​

Create a master calendar which includes: Test dates, fees and deadlines; Application due dates; Financial aid application due dates; Submission of transcripts and other materials due dates; Dates by which you need to have signed recommendations.

Finalize the list of colleges and universities to which you will apply.​

Begin to fill out admissions applications and work on your application essays.​

Update your resume, highlighting accomplishments and work experiences.​

Research scholarship opportunities and request application materials. ​
