Applied Technology - AAS
This program of study provides students with both technical and business training, which will enable graduates to advance their careers in a variety of technical fields. The program provides individuals with technical certification or training from other accredited institutions the opportunity to complete a relevant associate degree. <br> <br>Multiple tracks from which students can choose in accordance with their career goals will include heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technology; industrial engineering technology; environmental engineering technology; and civil engineering technology. This program will prepare students for occupations such as engineering technicians, industry team leaders, quality coordinators, new product development coordinators and sales specialists, among others. <br>
Mechatronics Engineering Technology - BS
The Bachelor of Science degree in mechatronics engineering technology at Cal U. will be offered beginning in Fall 2013. The program is designed to provide graduates with a high-tech skill set and knowledge in mechanical, electrical and computing technology through automated control and information systems. <br> <br>The state Department of Labor and Industry has identified these skills as a high priority for future jobs. In a study of 280 U.S. companies, growth rates averaging 20 percent were reported in the manufacturing, service, medical and robotics sectors, all of which represent future employers for graduates of the new program.
Natural Gas Production and Services - AAS
The new degree in natural gas production and services is designed to prepare graduates for various career paths in the natural gas industry. The five concentrations within the program—permitting and inspection specialist, mud logging/geology specialist, environmental specialist, geographic information systems specialist and safety management specialist—have been identified by industry employers as well as major corporations in the Northern Tier of the Commonwealth as meeting a critical need. The program is closely aligned with the emerging and growing careers in the drilling industry as outlined by the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association.
Safety Management - BS
Mansfield University’s program in safety management is designed to prepare graduates for the expanding Marcellus Shale industry and associated energy businesses that have an immediate need for safety professionals. It also will prepare graduates for a range of occupational health and safety positions in other industries, both regionally and globally. <br> <br>The state Department of Environmental Protection has indicated a strong demand for safety workers, as has the Pennsylvania Statewide Marcellus Workforce Needs Assessment. <br>
Software Engineering - BS
This program is designed to prepare students for careers developing large-scale software while working in highly effective development teams. <br> <br>Graduates will have the skills necessary to design, construct and test large-scale software systems. They will understand the tools and techniques used by software development teams to plan and manage such projects, and will be ready to help meet the large and growing demand for trained software developers in the Commonwealth and surrounding region. <br>
Technology Leadership - BAS
The Bachelor of Applied Science in technology leadership will be offered completely online and is designed to provide those with associate degrees in applied science a pathway to a baccalaureate degree in order to enhance their skills and their career opportunities. The program will offer a combination of coursework and field experiences in leadership development, business skills and advanced technology. <br> <br>Online course offerings will enable those enrolled in the program to achieve their academic goals while also meeting family and work demands.
Lock Haven –
Clinical Mental Health Counseling - MS
This graduate degree program is designed to address the need for mental health counselors to work in rural areas and to work with military veterans, especially those who may be suffering with post-traumatic stress syndrome. <br> <br>The program will utilize both online and interactive (ITV) delivery methods to all easy access by potential students who may already be working full time. The need for mental health counselors in these two areas of expertise is expected to increase rapidly throughout the next decade. <br>
Doctor of Audiology
Bloomsburg University began offering the Doctor of Audiology degree program in conjunction with IUP in 2003. At the time, BU had been offering a Master of Science degree in audiology for more than 30 years, and its program graduates had a 100 percent pass rate on the national certification exam. Changes in the field – similar to those in nursing – resulted in the entry-level degree for professional audiologists being elevated to the doctorate.
West Chester –
Doctorate of Nursing Practice
The Doctorate of Nursing Practice at WCU will focus on skills such as collaboration, innovation and evaluation. The majority of the program will be offered online. The doctoral degree is expected to become the required level of preparation for advanced practice nurses beginning in 2015. <br> <br>The flexible design of the proposed 35-credit online program is intended to meet the needs of working advanced practice nurses in the region while still allowing for face-to-face advising and interaction with faculty.
Slippery Rock –
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The new MBA program at Slippery Rock is designed to meet the needs of the Commonwealth’s high priority occupations in the areas of financial services, logistics and management. The 36- to 39-credit program will consist of three tracks: general, accounting/finance and management/marketing and will be offered at the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) in Cranberry Township. The RLA is located in a high-growth economic corridor five miles from Pittsburgh city limits and 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. <br> <br>Utilizing an eight-week mini-semester format with blended face-to-face and distance education courses, the MBA program will provide flexibility and accelerated delivery formats designed to meet the needs of working adults who wish to maintain or advance in their careers.
