Chancellor Search

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends:

Dr. Daniel Greenstein, Chancellor-Select     

Moments ago, the Board of Governors selected Dr. Daniel Greenstein to serve as our next chancellor, beginning in September. Dan led the Postsecondary Success strategy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for six years and previously was a top administrator in the University of California system. He is nationally recognized as a transformative leader in higher education. To read more about Dan and what others have to say about him, view our news release​

Dan will be a game changer for our System. His energy and passion for students is infectious—having spent much of his career dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for students and ensuring their success, in the classroom and beyond. He will boost our national prominence, and—more important—he is the perfect choice to lead our ongoing System Redesign so that we don’t miss a beat.

The Search Committee

In accordance with Board policy, the search committee comprises the Board’s executive committee and up to three other individuals appointed by the Board chair. It is vitally important that the search process include the voices of those at our university campuses, so a student, a faculty member, and an administrator have been appointed to the committee.

Committee members:

Cindy Shapira (Search Chair), chair of the Board

Harold Shields (Search Co-Chair); vice chair of the Board; chair of the Governance and Leadership Committee; chair of the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Trustees

David Maser, vice chair of the Board; chair of the Student Success Committee Committee

Tom Muller, chair of the University Success Committee

Sam Smith, chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee

Ryan Long, president of the Student Government Association at West Chester University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Laura Delbrugge, faculty member; chair of the Foreign Language Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Donna Wilson, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania

The Process

Board of Governors policy clearly outlines the process to follow when searching for a new chancellor. Here is an overview:

​​• Se​arch firm is selected to assist in the process
​• Stakeholder input is gathered from students, faculty, staff, alumni and others to aid in the development of the leadership profile for the next chancellor
​• The leadership profile document and recruitment materials are finalized
​• Candidates are recruited applications are reviewed by the search committee
​• First-round interviews are conducted; at least three candidates proceed to second-round interviews
​• Second-round interviews conducted; unless additional interviews are needed, the Board of Governors selects a candidate with whom to begin employment negotiations
• ​Upon successful negotiation of terms, the Board of Governors holds a public meeting to officially appoint the next Chancellor

NOTE: Additional meetings/sessions/interviews may be added at the discretion of the search committee.
