Increasing Teacher Quality through Hand-held, Hands-On Technology Integration

Increasing Teacher Quality through Hand-held, Hands-On Technology Integration

Project Goal:

The overall goal of this project is to develop a model program to ensure that System pre-service teachers and in-service teachers are skilled and experienced in integrating technology as pedagogy in various content areas to guide K-12 students to achieve challenging academic standards.

Key strategies to achieve this goal are:

  1. to align all technology integration with both the state and International Society for Technology Education Standards;
  2. to work through previously established P-16 partnerships of public schools and universities;
  3. to encourage participants to develop a shared understanding of ways that technology can enhance implementation of “No Child Left Behind”;
  4. to provide pre-service teachers with access to hand-held technology in K-12 classrooms during their field experiences;
  5. to provide professional development for pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and higher education faculty in the use of these hand-held technologies for learning and assessment in K-12 classrooms;
  6. to guide Action-Research projects focused on using technology to assess student learning, analyze the data, and revise instruction based on actual student learning; and
  7. to disseminate all resources and findings developed through this project on the Academy’s Technology Integration Portal (http://www.pa-academy.org/pt3/portal) developed through the 2001 PT3 Catalyst grant.
