Pennsylvania's P/K-16 Councils

What is a P/K-16 Council?

It is a civic vehicle comprised of education, business, and community leaders who represent key stakeholders in education and who come together to increase dramatically success rates among all students, P/K-16.

What is the purpose of Pennsylvania's Regional P/K-16 Councils?

To create systemic reform in Pennsylvania education. P/K-16 Councils are a national strategy to create systemic reform in education because the school is both the university's supplier and its market. Because basic education and higher education are intricately intertwined, you cannot change one without changing the way you do business in the other.

  • Developing seamless education system (P/K-16)
  • Implementing Pennsylvania's standards for the preparation of teachers that are clearly defined, rigorous, and measurable
  • Integrating technology into the P/K-16 curriculum
  • Regional Council Goals

What are the benefits to the Region?

  • More knowledgeable and effective teachers
  • Higher achieving students
  • Collaborative and supportive working environments for teachers
  • Increased community involvement in education
  • Increased community awareness of education in terms of standards, assessments, effective practices, and other factors that lead to positive reform
