Preparing to Teach Online Creates New Possibilities for Face-to-Face Teaching

An action research study was conducted to explore how faculty learn to teach online and how that may influence their face-to-face teaching practices. We’ll discuss the aspects of the professional development program to prepare them to teach online that were perceived as being most effective, and the changes that were made and why.

Presenter: Carol McQuiggan

Dr. Carol McQuiggan is a senior instructional designer and manager of the Faculty Center for Teaching & Instructional Technology at Penn State Harrisburg. She has been researching and writing on faculty professional development for online teaching for a number of years, including a half-day workshop and numerous presentations at the annual Sloan-C International Conference on Online Learning, as well as other venues. She uses adult learning theory, and specifically transformative learning theory, to inform her work.
