Blogging to Enhance Student Learning Outcomes

The use of blogs in and out of the classroom can be a powerful way for faculty and student affairs professionals alike to develop and assess student learning outcomes. Participants will learns the basics of blogging, including how to use free blogging services like Wordpress and Blogger, how to integrate blogging activities in and out of the classroom, and how to utilize data from blogging to assess student learning outcomes. Actual examples from work with our students will be shared.

Scott M. Helfrich, D.Ed. and Justin Schifelbein have presented on social media topics on campus locally and at regional student affairs conferences. Mr. Schifelbein is the creator of the new "ResLifeSynergy.wordpress.com" blog while Dr. Helfrich is the creator and administrator of the "studentlifeguru.com" blog, which receives nearly 1,500 visits per month. Dr. Helfrich is also a guest blogger for the Huffington Post College.
