Video Captioning for Accessibility: Penn State Demos Its Solution
Although online video is becoming the dominant medium in education, closed captioning is rare—even though it is a necessity for deaf users and an essential aid for ESL students. Captioning is often perceived as obtrusive and expensive, but in this session, Penn State University will demonstrate a cost-effective, streamlined captioning workflow that provides push-button simplicity for instructors, administrators, and students campus-wide.

Dr. Keith Bailey leads the day-to-day activities for the College’s technology-based learning initiatives. This includes overseeing all aspects of the College's online learning portfolio including forty online courses and two online programs, which cross seven academic disciplines, providing more than 12,000 enrollments annually. Over the past 15 years at Penn State, Dr. Bailey has spent a considerable amount time leading instructional technology innovation teams in the development of open source applications used to support the College’s and University’s online courseware.
