Zero to Online in Six Months
The School for Professional Studies (SPS) at Elmhurst College was chartered on 07/01/12 with a goal of having online programs offered for non-traditional students by the Elmhurst College Online Center (ECOC) in Spring Semester 2013 (February, 2013). With just seven months before the start of the semester, SPS was challenged by limited time, financial, and staffing resources and dedicated to program quality. What components of orientation and development would be required to support faculty? How would new online students be supported? What policies and processes would need to be developed to support the new online center? SPS married best practices in online learning, course development, and student affairs with the mission and core-values of the college to create a high-touch learning experience for students and faculty members.
