Message from Board Chair
Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends-
Since becoming Chair of the Board of Governors, I have pledged to listen, learn, and lead on behalf of the more than 100,000 students attending our 14 universities. Over the past several weeks, the State System has garnered additional attention with the recent unveiling of the report from the Strategic System Review
, which will help us create a roadmap for the future of our System. We hope you take the opportunity to review the information provided online.
As you know, Chancellor Brogan announced he will retire from the System on September 1, and we are so grateful for his leadership and vision over the past four years. Even as we prepare to say farewell to the Chancellor, I am writing today to assure you that the Board of Governors and our staff will be laser-focused on what is best for our students and our System throughout this transition. Working together with you, know that we are strong and united as we face the challenges and opportunities that are ahead.
We will continue to be transparent in our communications with you as we move through this leadership transition. Toward that goal, please know that Executive Vice Chancellor Peter Garland will serve as Acting Chancellor beginning September 2.
As summer quickly passes us by, each of our 14 universities are looking forward to a great year ahead. We know that—working together—it can be one of our best yet.
Cindy Shapira, Chair
Board of Governors
