Cheyney University senior and women’s basketball team member, Ceani Beaden, recently volunteered her time to prepare a large donation of bagged lunches for clients of the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. CAADC works to strengthen the community by serving disadvantaged residents and assisting these individuals towards economic self-sufficiency.
“As a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, I’m always reminded that the founders were big on the principals of service,” said Beaden. “What’s the point of being in an organization if you’re not serving? No one deserves to be hungry, and I wanted to find out a way to make a difference.”
Beaden contacted local shelters to find out how she could help serve the community before deciding on CAADC. She enlisted her Cheyney women’s basketball team, and together, they donated 120 bagged lunches to two shelters in the Chester area.
“We all tend to complain about the little things, so giving back really made me appreciate what I have,” said Beaden. “It was truly amazing to see how happy and appreciative these families were of our donation.”
