Message from Chairman Pichini

March 21, 2013

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and its 14 member universities play a vital role in the Commonwealth, helping to ensure its economic future by preparing tomorrow’s leaders in a vast array of career fields. The success of our students is paramount.

Strong leadership is essential, not only for the benefit of our students, but for all of Pennsylvania. As we embark on the process of selecting a new chancellor for PASSHE, the Board of Governors is committed to finding a leader who will provide strategic direction for the System while also serving as a strong advocate for our students and universities in advancing the goals of PASSHE with the Legislature and Governor, as well as with community and business leaders.

The chancellor’s search committee comprises the executive committee of the Board of Governors. In order to ensure a successful search, we will engage all of our campus constituencies – students, faculty, staff and administrators – as well as PASSHE university alumni; business, community and civic leaders; and others throughout the process. The more input we can gather, the better we can define the type of leader we all are looking for.

Over the next several weeks, we will conduct meetings with the various constituency groups, at which we will listen and learn. Several planning meetings already have been held to begin the process, and we also have engaged the services of an executive search firm to assist us.

As Board chairman, I promise a thorough and exhaustive search. Information on the progress of the search will be provided as we move forward. Regular updates will be posted on this website.

PASSHE’s next chancellor will take on the enormous challenge of leading our public university system at a time of historic change for higher education. It is our challenge to ensure we find the best individual to take on that role.

Guido M. Pichini
Chairman, Board of Governors
