Mansfield University student and mother co-author book for children

“I have a passion for helping young children, and my mom has a passion for helping females and children, so we decided to combine those passions and write a book."

That is how Mansfield University junior Micah Maxton explains how she and her mother, Shanon Skipworth, co-authored and self-published Tamara Goes To School: Building Self-Esteem, a childrens book that raises awareness about issues such as self-esteem, body image, bullying, peer pressure, and other issues youth are facing in schools, homes and elsewhere.

 Points of Pride

​Mansfield hosted the world’s first night football game on September 28, 1892.

​North Hall, Mansfield’s original building still stands at the center of campus. Originally a call room and residence hall, it was renovated and reopened as a state-of-the-art library and administration building in 1996.

​The Mansfield University Music Department has developed a reputation as one of the finest in the nation, with award winning ensembles that perform extensively throughout the northeast and have performed several times in Europe.

Peter C. Fackler



Peter Fackler was named interim president of Mansfield University on August 3, 2018. He previously served for nine months as interim president of Clarion University. He has more than 30 years’ experience in higher education, having held positions at Alfred University, Bates College, West Chester University and the School of Visual Arts in New York. In addition to serving as Clarion’s interim president during most of the 2017-18 academic year, he previously was the university’s interim vice president for administration and finance. Learn more.
