Effective March 1, 2024: As a result of the competitive bid process, MetLife was awarded the contract for Voluntary Life, AD&D, and LTD benefits. Over the next several weeks this site will be updated with new brochures and forms. 

Who is Eligible?

VGLIP coverage is available to active, permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee who works at least 50% of the full-time work week or a temporary full-time or part-time faculty member working at least 50% of full-time for one full academic year.

Benefits elected within the first 31 days of eligibility will be issued without evidence of good health (subject to applicable coverage limits).  If you wish to elect at any other time or elect coverage in excess of the guaranteed issue limits, evidence of good health will be required.

How much coverage can I get?

Employee - increments of $10,000; guaranteed coverage $200,000; maximum coverage lesser of 5x salary or $500,000.
Spouse - increments of $5,000; guaranteed coverage $25,000; maximum coverage $100,000
Children- amounts of $5,000 or $10,000, guaranteed coverage $10,000

- Actual per pay period premiums may differ slightly due to rounding. All spouse rates are based on spouse age. Rates vary by age and may be subject to change in the future. Benefits will reduce based on age (see Benefits Reduction Schedule for details).

How to Calculate Your Bi-weekly Cost:
Step 1
: Use the chart above to find your rate based on your age as of your effective date.
Step 2: Determine the amount of insurance units in thousands of dollars (For example, $200,000 of coverage is 200 units)
Step 3: Multiply rate (Step 1) rate by units (Step 2) to obtain your monthly cost.
Step 4: Multiply monthly cost (Step 3) by 12 to determine your annual cost.
Step 5: Divide your annual cost (Step 4) by your pay frequency (20 or 26) to determine your bi-weekly payroll deduction amount.
