Student government leaders from the 14 state-owned universities have elected their 2002-03 executive board.
Brandon W. Danz, a senior from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, has been elected chairperson of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Board of Student Government Presidents (BSGP).
Jesse Hereda of California University of Pennsylvania will serve as vice chairperson; Jennifer Kilgore of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, secretary/treasurer; and Mike Phillips of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, parliamentarian.
The BSGP comprises the presidents of the 14 state-owned universities’ student government organizations. The student government presidents, along with the other elected student government officers from each of the campuses, meet four times a year to discuss issues of importance to the more than 101,000 students who attend State System universities. In recent years the student leaders have addressed such issues as campus safety and security, civility and alcohol abuse and binge drinking.
The student leaders establish goals and promote activities to help improve the health, welfare and quality of education for students throughout the System.
Danz of Washington Boro is the son of Bill Danz and Roseanne Daecher. He is president of the Millersville Student Senate and is majoring in secondary education/social studies with a minor in athletic coaching. A 1998 graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, Danz also is a member of the State System’s Board of Governors.
Hereda of Boiling Springs is the son of Frank and Lynn Hereda. He is president of the California Student Government Association. A 1999 graduate of Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Hereda is majoring in political science/pre-law.
Kilgore of Mercer is the daughter of Richard and Jill Pierce and Michael and Caryn Kilgore. She is president of the Edinboro Student Government Association. A 1999 graduate of Reynolds Junior/Senior High School, Kilgore is majoring in accounting.
Phillips of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, is the son of Frank and Laurie Phillips. He is president of the Clarion Student Senate. A 1999 graduate of Kenston High School, Phillips is majoring in finance.
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is the largest provider of higher education in the Commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate programs in more than 120 areas of study. More than 360,000 System alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
The state-owned universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. The System also operates branch campuses in Clearfield, Kittanning, Oil City and Punxsutawney and several regional centers, including the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg. The regional centers are part of the Educational Resources Group, which is responsible for coordinating statewide programming.
