University Center Board awards annual scholarship

The Board of Directors of the University Center at Harrisburg, Inc. has awarded its Summer 2004 scholarship to Todd Skoczynski of Skoczynski is an employee at Cornell Abraxas, Inc. and is enrolled in the master’s in community counseling program offered by Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania at Dixon University Center.
The Board awards scholarships to students who are not receiving full-tuition reimbursement from another source, are advancing in an undergraduate or graduate program offered at Dixon University Center, and are maintaining a minimum grade point average.
The University Center at Harrisburg, Inc., a private not-for-profit community corporation, has played an important role in bringing higher education to the Capital Region since 1951. The Board, comprised of area business leaders, provides advice and support for Dixon University Center and has awarded fall-term, spring-term, and summer-term scholarships since 1993.
Dixon University Center is operated by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). Eight colleges and universities, including five PASSHE universities, offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the Center, with both evening and weekend classes.
With more than 104,000 students, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is the largest provider of higher education in the Commonwealth. The 14 PASSHE Universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate programs in more than 120 areas of study. Nearly 400,000 PASSHE alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
The state-owned universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. PASSHE also operates branch campuses in Clearfield, Kittanning, Oil City and Punxsutawney and several regional centers, including the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg.
