Harrisburg – The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) today named Dr. Jim Moran, vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs in the Office of the Chancellor, to serve as interim president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, effective June 1.
Dr. Moran has been with the Office of the Chancellor for nearly six years. Since October 2008, he has led the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, which is responsible for overseeing academic program approval and review, faculty development, academic and student policy development, articulation and transfer policies and grants development for the State System, and for participating in Statewide Meet and Discuss with the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF).
Board of Governors Chairman Kenneth M. Jarin praised Dr. Moran’s “excellent leadership in the Office of the Chancellor,” adding that he and the Board are “confident he will do the same for Edinboro University during this period of transition.”
“Dr. Moran will bring extensive knowledge about PASSHE and enable Edinboro University to continue its growth trajectory,” said PASSHE Chancellor Dr. John C. Cavanaugh. “He will also be able to provide assistance as Edinboro prepares for its Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation review. I look forward to supporting him during his service at Edinboro.”
Dr. Jeremy D. Brown, who has served as Edinboro University president since 2007, announced earlier this year that he will leave at the end of May to assume the presidency of Dowling College on Long Island, N.Y. Dr. Moran will serve as interim president until a new, permanent president is hired. Edinboro’s Council of Trustees will appoint a search committee to begin the process of selecting a new president. The Board of Governors will make the final selection.
“On behalf of the Council of Trustees, I welcome Dr. Moran as the Interim President of Edinboro University,” said Council Chair Harold C. Shields. “Dr. Moran brings strong academic and leadership credentials that will be needed to continue Edinboro University on its path of excellence.”
Dr. Moran holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and history from Duke University, a Master of Science degree in psychology from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in family relations and child development from Oklahoma State University.
In addition to his responsibilities as vice chancellor, Dr. Moran serves on the advisory boards for the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and Pennsylvania’s Complete College America Initiative. He is Pennsylvania’s higher education lead for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers and is a member of the group that is reviewing Pennsylvania’s teacher evaluation process. He also is a member of the state Department of Education’s Transfer and Articulation Oversight Committee, Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Council and the GEAR-UP Advisory Board. He serves as the lead for Pennsylvania’s participation in the international Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes project and on the program committee for the State Higher Education Executive Officers Higher Education Policy Conference and PASSHE’s Access to Success Initiative in partnership with EdTrust.
Dr. Moran previously served in the University of Tennessee System Office as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. He was responsible for coordinating the university effort to achieve regional re-accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and served as facilitator for special projects, developing a university business incubator, forming a statewide mulit-university academic consortium in public health and acquiring federal funding for the University of Tennessee Center for Nutrition and Fitness. He also held numerous positions at the University of Tennessee, including Dean of the College of Human Ecology and Associate Dean for Research and Business Administration within the college. He also was elected and served as the president of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 2004.
Dr. Moran also was head of Family Relations and Child Development at Oklahoma State University and served on the faculty at the University of Tennessee, Oklahoma State University, Virginia Tech University and the University of Oklahoma.
