Artists’ reception to be held Friday at Dixon University Center

                        Harrisburg – A reception for student artists from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania whose
                        artwork is on display on the first floor of the administration building at the Dixon
                        University Center in Harrisburg will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, at the center.
                        The public is invited.
                     
                     The student-produced artwork includes prints, photographs, paintings, digital media
                        and sculpture.
                     
                     The featured student artists are Leah Gardock of Morgantown (prints), Victoria Beck
                        of Allentown (prints), Curtis Welteroth of Williamsport (digital media and sculpture),
                        Amanda Quevedo of Hawley (photography), Bryan Fellenbaum of Columbia (painting), Alex
                        Swisher of Chambersburg (photography) and Grace Bevelheimer of Camp Hill (photography).
                        
                     
                     Several of the student artists have been recognized by regional art organizations
                        for their talent. Fellenbaum was selected last summer as the “Emerging Artist” at
                        the Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show while Swisher recently was invited to display his
                        work in the "Convergence" group exhibition at the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg.
                        Quevedo’s work has been entered in a number of juried exhibitions.
                     
                     Gardock recently studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she took part in a printmaking
                        workshop, while Beck participated in a lithography workshop with a Tamarind master
                        printer. Bevelheimer plans to travel to India for two months at the end of 2015 with
                        an organization called Communities Rising, during which she will teach art and help
                        out with various educational programs for children. 
                     
                     The Dixon University Center is located at 2986 N. Second Street. The public may view
                        the student artwork from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end
                        of May.
                     
                     Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education is the largest provider of higher
                           education in the Commonwealth, with about 110,000 degree-seeking students and thousands
                           more who are enrolled in certificate and other career-development programs. Collectively,
                           the 14 universities that comprise the State System offer more than 2,300 degree and
                           certificate programs in more than 530 academic areas. Nearly 520,000 State System
                           university alumni live in Pennsylvania. 
                     
                     
                        The State System universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg,
                           Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery
                           Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. The universities also operate
                           branch campuses in Oil City (Clarion), Freeport and Punxsutawney (IUP), and Clearfield
                           (Lock Haven), and offer classes and programs at several regional centers, including
                           the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg and in Center City in Philadelphia.
