ZEGLEN NAMED KEYSTONE LIBRARY NETWORK COORDINATOR
Contact: Kevin Hensil, khensil@passhe.edu
Eric Zeglen has been appointed coordinator of the Keystone Library Network of the State System of Higher Education.
In his position, Zeglen will be responsible for administering the installation and operation of the network at all 14 state-owned universities. The integrated library system will electronically link the resources of all of the campus libraries, making it possible for students and faculty at any of the institutions to “search” the collections of the others without leaving their own campus.
Zeglen has served as the KLN’s interim coordinator for the last year. In that position, he served as project director for phase two to the network’s installation, developing the specifications for the technological infrastructure needed for the network initiative.
Previously, Zeglen was library information systems manager at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where he was responsible for planning, designing and implementing the library’s local area network. He also wrote technical specifications for and selected all of the hardware and software used in library automation projects at IUP.
Zeglen is a 1992 graduate of IUP, with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He worked as a student assistant in audio/video information and library automation while earning his undergraduate degree. He served as library information system manager at IUP since his graduation until taking his current position with the System.
All of the state-owned universities are being connected to the Keystone Library Network through three main hub sites at Indiana, Shippensburg and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. The network should be fully operational by later this year. When it is, the State System will be the first university system in the nation to have a distributed, client-server “virtual library network.”
The State System of Higher Education comprises 14 universities throughout the Commonwealth, and is the largest provider of higher education in the state. One of every 29 Pennsylvanians is attending or is a graduate of a System university. The State System is the 17th largest employer in the state, with more than 11,700 employees.
The 14 state-owned universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. The System also operates branch campuses in Clearfield, Kittanning, Oil City and Punxsutawney and several regional centers.
