Strong Start to Finish Grant logoThe State System is currently invested in a comprehensive System Redesign effort in response to an array of challenges that confront public higher education nationally but are acutely concentrated in Pennsylvania.

The overarching vision of System Redesign is to “sustainably provide affordable, relevant, postsecondary education to all Pennsylvanians, continuing our historic mission as an engine of social mobility and economic development.” With this vision, our top three priorities of System Redesign are:

  • ensure student success
  • leverage university strengths, and
  • transform the governance / leadership structure.

A system-wide Strong Start to Finish grant has allowed State System faculty and staff to develop a system-wide protocol for curriculum design and implementation of corequisite learning support for mathematics. Developmental education is directly related to our system’s access mission and its commitment to serving the educational needs and goals of students across the Commonwealth.

A working group was formed of mathematics faculty members, as well as staff, from these State System universities: Bloomsburg University, Clarion University, Edinburg University, East Stroudsburg University, Lockhaven University and Mansfield University, and a representative from the Office of the Chancellor. This working group built upon previous work developed by the Developmental Education group, and built out one of four recommendations for change: corequisite learning supports.
